Australian Open 2025: Sinner The Favourite

Sinner heads into the 2025 Australian Open following a 14-match winning run to end 2024. The 23-year-old won eight ATP Tour titles in the 2024 season and won 73 of his 79 matches.

World number three Carlos Alcaraz is expected to be one of Sinner’s biggest rivals. Alcaraz ended last season with 53 wins and 13 defeats and he lost three of his last five matches in 2024.

The 21-year-old will need to improve on his recent Australian Open record to challenge Sinner. Alcaraz’s best run at Melbourne Park came last year when he reached the quarter-finals and lost to Alexander Zverev.

11-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is also among the favourites. The Serbian reached the semi-final stage in 2024 before losing to Sinner.

Djokovic performed well at some of the biggest competitions in 2024. He won Olympic gold at Paris 2024 and reached the Wimbledon final.

The 37-year-old had a setback at the Brisbane International. Djokovic suffered a shock defeat against Reily Opelka at the quarter-final stage on Friday.

Alexander Zverev is number two in the ATP rankings but is considered an outsider to win the Australian Open. The German won two Masters 1000 competitions in 2024 and finished last season with 10 wins from his last 12 matches.

Zverev has never won a Grand Slam title in his career and he has not progressed further than the semi-final stage at Melbourne Park.

Australian Open 2025 Predictions

Sinner showed his ability to close out tournament wins last season with two Grand Slam triumphs and looks a good pick for the 2025 Australian Open. Alcaraz will need to be at his best to upset Sinner, while Djokovic and Zverev are lacking the consistency to compete.
